Lumbar Hyperlordosis
Lumbar Hyperlordosis Human spines are naturally curved, but too much of a curve may cause problems. Hyperlordosis is when the inward curve of the spine in the lower back is exaggerated. This condition is also called swayback or saddleback. Hyperlordosis can occur in all ages, but it’s rare in children. It’s a reversible condition.
Causes & risk factors
Causes- Bad posture is the most frequent cause of hyperlordosis. Other factors that may include:
Obesity ,wearing high-heeled shoes for extended periods, spinal injury , neuromuscular diseases, sitting or standing for extended periods, weak core muscles.
Pregnant wome A 2007 study found that hyperlordosis is the way that the female spine evolved to adjust to the additional weight of a baby.
Risk factor-
* Aging: Intervertebral disks begin deteriorating and growing thinner by age 30.
* High-risk occupation: Jobs that involve lifting, bending, and twisting into awkward positions, as well as those that cause whole-body vibration (such as long-distance truck driving), place workers at particular risk for low back pain.
* Medical condition in some children:Stress fractures (spondylolysis) in the spine are a common cause of back pain in young athletes. Hyperlordosis is an inborn exaggerated inward curve in the lumbar area. Scoliosis, an abnormal curvature of the spine in children.
* Pregnancy:Pregnant women are prone to back pain due to a shifting of abdominal organs, the forward redistribution of body weight, and the loosening of ligaments in the pelvic area as the body prepares for delivery.
