Together with symptoms of maldigestion, PEI is associated with  nutritional deficiencies leading to  osteoporosis, low-trauma fractures, sarcopenia and increased mortality, due to cardiovascular events & chronic pancreatitis, &   sometimes may show symptoms of bloating, farting & constipation or diarrhoea.

Together with a poor quality of life, the main consequence of PEI is malnutrition. Deficiencies of fat-soluble vitamins and different proteins, high-density lipoproteins and transferrin and micronutrients like magnesium and zinc are frequently present.

Simple blood tests can show the beginnings of Pancreatic Exocrine Insufficiency by screening for a deficiency of proteins, fat-soluble    vitamins, zinc and magnesium.
