Are you low in Iron?
As an essential component of hundreds of proteins and enzymes, iron supports a wide variety of essential biological functions, including oxygen transport, energy production, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) synthesis, cell growth and replication and host defence.1-3Iron deficiency is the most common nutritional deficiency worldwide.3This is significant as even a mild deficiency can cause symptoms such as mood changes, poor concentration, tiredness and reduced physical performance, and may warrant iron replenishment, particularly in vulnerable patient groups like children.4 In 2010, published data suggested that 8% of Australian preschool children were anaemic, with iron deficiency being a major cause.
