Cortisone Injections
Cortisone S H O T S
Currently many people are opting for this pain relief method, which may just be masking the pain instead of healing the root cause of the problem, making things worse in the long run. We do not recommend cortisone injections or tablets.
Cortisone shots are injections that may help relieve pain and inflammation in a specific area of your body. Usually joints such as ankles, elbows, hips, knee, shoulder, spine and wrist. It works as a nerve blocker therefore blocking pain but not fixing the problem that caused it in the first place.
Millions of people are also taking these corticosteroid drugs for a variety of medical problems such as asthma, emphysema, allergies, Crohn’s disease multiple sclerosis, herniated spinal discs, acute muscular pain syndromes, rheumatoid arthritis all to reduce inflammation. Cortisone will cover up the disease, but it is the underlying dysfunction–the cause of the disease–that must be repaired or the problem returns at a later date and is worse.
Cortisone is associated with serious long-term side effects
- Joint infection, and tendon weakening or rupture
- Nerve, muscle and ligament damage
- Thinning of skin and soft tissue around the injection site
- Bone loss -(osteoporosis) Is one of the most serious complications
- Weakening of the immune system & Cataracts
- Whitening or lightening of the skin around the injection site
- Death of nearby bone (osteonecrosis)
If the Doctor tells you to have a cortisone injection to fix your joint pain, I advise that you seek alternative treatment and correct the cause of the problem with Structural Chiropractic care, Remedial Massage, stretching, Supplements and Orthotics.
