Acidic Diets and Weight Gain

It has previously been demonstrated that weight regain after weight loss is associated with increased expression of genes related to adipose tissue stress and inflammation. Therefore, the      inflammatory properties of the diet may play a role in weight regain. Intake of several micronutrients with anti-inflammatory properties such as magnesium, folate and riboflavin were found to maintain weight loss.

Inflammatory factors in an individual’s diet are only thought to contribute to a small but significant effect in weight gain. Several other factors are likely to play a role including   total energy intake and energy expenditure which can be affected by changes to hunger and satiety related    hormones.
