“Middle-aged adults who have lost two or more teeth in recent past could be at increased risk for cardiovascular disease,” says  Dr. Lu Qi of Tulane University in New Orleans. This was regardless of whether they had other risk factors, such as poor diet and lifestyle.

Researchers also found those with the worst oral hygiene had a 70 percent increased chance of developing the condition compared with those who brush their teeth twice a day.

So what is the link ? Chronic Inflammation.. Periodontal disease involves inflammatory  compounds that can easily enter your blood stream.  Once in your blood stream, these toxic compounds can harm the lining of your blood vessels, which can lead to both strokes and heart attacks.  Diet is the only way to make sure you have large particle sized LDL’s in your cholesterol instead of the small kind, which create inflammation in your body and   cardiovascular disease.

Eating the following causes large amounts of small sized LDL’s:

  • Oxidized cholesterol (cholesterol that has gone rancid, such as that from overcooked scrambled eggs)
  • Eating lots of sugar and grains
  • Eating foods cooked at high temperatures
  • Eating trans fats
