Vitamin B12 deficiency occurs in vegetarians and those with poor digestion. The best from of Vitamin B 12 supplementation involves a mixture of compounds with a common corrinoid group centred around the mineral cobalt and ligands such as Methylcobalamin (MeCbl), Adenosylcobalamin (AdCbl), and Hydroxocobalamin (OHCbl).  All these forms are animal nature identical, whereas Cyanocobalamin is not.

The research concluded that all forms of B12 have been found to improve B12 status. However, human clinical trials found that compared with Methylcobalamin, Hydroxocobalamin , and Adenosylcobalamin, Cyanocobalamin had low bioavailability due to low cellular uptake and metabolic activation.  If you are taking a vitamin B12 supplement make sure it has a variety of forms for maximum results.
